Frank Miedema talks about Science in Transition at TEDxMaastricht

Professor Frank Miedema pitched Science in Transition at the 2014 TEDxMaastricht event on 13 October. The 15 minute english presentation is available on Youtube.
He made a plea for ‘science in society’. Scientific quality should not only be defined in terms of peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals. Scientists and societal stakeholders should engage in a dialogue about setting research priorities and the definition of scientific quality.

Yeah yeah. True story. But nothing will change if academics don't take a look at their own intellectual property policy, such as Utrecht Holding BV. Bringing therapies to sub-saharan Africa? Building sustainable healthcare? changing incentives in science? Not without IP reform and better academic licensing policy. |
