Europese Commissie start publieksconsultatie “Science 2.0: Science in Transition”

De Europese Commissie is een online publieksconsultatie gestart als reactie op fundamentele veranderingen die de wetenschap doormaakt. Individuen, overheden en instellingen kunnen hun visie geven op ‘Science 2.0’, een nieuwe vorm van wetenschap waarin samenwerking met publieken en transparantie en het delen van onderzoeksdata centraal staan. De consultatie heet “Public consultation ‘Science 2.0’: Science in Transition”.

In de achtergrondanalyse (pdf) verwijst de Europese Commissie onder de kop “Science in Transition: evolving debates and activities in the Member States of the European Union” onder meer naar het debat in Nederland dat mede op gang gebracht is door Science in Transition. “In the Netherlands, an intensive debate has evolved on the basis of a position-paper entitled ‘Science in Transition’. The ongoing debate in the Netherlands addressed, among other, the issue of the use of bibliometrics in relation to the determination of scientific careers. However this debate went actually beyond the scope of what is described in this consultation paper as ‘Science 2.0’ and included also discussions on the democratisation of the research agenda, the science-policy interface and calls for making research more socially relevant.”

De Europese Commissie lanceert Science 2.0 als een reactie op drie hoofdtrends. Dat zijn de sterk toegenomen wetenschappelijke productie; de data-intensieve manier van wetenschap bedrijven; en de toename in het aantal niet-wetenschappelijke actoren in de wetenschap, met name burgerinitiatieven.

De publieksconsultatie loopt tot en met 30 september 2014. De uitkomsten zullen in het najaar besproken worden in workshops met verschillende stakeholders.
