Authorship on research papers: the power of senior academicsMonday 4 September 2017
In an opinion piece Trisha Greenhalgh criticizes senior academics misusing their power to acquire authorship on research papers they never worked on. Greenhalgh suggests an academic oath might help to prevent these practices.
The article “Do we need an Hippocratic oath for academics?” published by Times Higher Education claims that such authorship demands by senior academics are an abuse of professional strength and status towards juniors. As a professor of primary care health sciences at the University of Oxford Trisha campaigns that changes need to be made by developing an ethics of professional practice that is based on academic values, and which recognizes and lacks academic vice.
